A 3-Day E-Bike Adventure Through Chianti & Tuscany on the Historic Via Francigena
Ride through Tuscany’s rolling hills, Chianti’s vineyards, and the historic Via Francigena on a 3-day E-bike journey from Florence to Siena. Designed after over 30 years of experience, this itinerary blends history, culture, food, and landscapes for an unforgettable adventure.
The Via Francigena is one of Europe’s oldest pilgrimage routes, stretching from Canterbury to Rome – even older than Spain’s Camino de Santiago. On this tour, you’ll experience its most iconic Tuscan sections while discovering Chianti Classico, UNESCO towns, and authentic countryside stays.
DAY 1 – from FLORENCE to PANZANO IN CHIANTI (40 km / 25 miles)
We meet at our Florence office in the authentic Oltrarno district, where your guide fits you with E-bikes and equipment. You can leave your luggage with us for transfer to your accommodation.
The day begins riding through the noble Florentine hills, past the Certosa monastery, and into the Chianti countryside. At a family-run farm, you’ll meet the owners, tour the estate, and enjoy a home-cooked meal paired with their extra virgin olive oils and Chianti wines. In the afternoon, we continue through vineyards and olive groves before reaching a charming farm stay in Panzano in Chianti, where you’ll relax and dine in the evening.DAY 2 – from PANZANO IN CHIANTI to SAN GIMIGNANO (45 km / 28 miles)
After breakfast, we join the Via Francigena to reach San Gimignano, the “Manhattan of Tuscany,” famous for its medieval towers. You’ll have free time to explore before visiting a local farm for a tour, lunch, and tastings of Vernaccia wine, olive oil, and other specialties. You’ll spend the night in or near San Gimignano, enjoying the village in the quieter hours after day visitors have departed.DAY 3 – from SAN GIMIGNANO to SIENA (51 km / 32 miles)
From one UNESCO World Heritage Site to another! This stretch of the Francigena is among the most spectacular, with quiet roads and meditative paths. We ride through Colle Val d’Elsa, follow the serene Elsa River trail, and stop at Pieve di Strove and Abbadia a Isola, historic pilgrimage landmarks. Lunch is in Monteriggioni, a walled medieval village beloved by locals. The final leg takes us along dirt roads, past Cerbaia, and into Siena, arriving either at San Domenico Church or Siena train station, depending on your plans. This is the ultimate way to travel from Florence to Siena: slowly, authentically, and immersed in Tuscany’s beauty.
